Aロマンティック、またはAroとは、恋愛的慕情を経験しない[1][2]、または経験しても非常に希薄である人[3]またはそういった恋愛的指向のあり方を表します[3]。LGBTQIA＋のAは、Aロマンティックも表します[1]。Aロマンティックの人は、性的慕情を含む、他の種類の慕情を経験したり、恋愛を伴わない関係を築くこともあります。

スプリット・アトラクション・モデルに従えば、AロマンティックはAセクシュアルと対になる考えです。また、Aロマンティックの個人は、レズビアンなど、その他の恋愛的・性的指向であることもあります[4]。
Aロマンティックの個人は、恋愛的パートナーの代わりに、つよい友情関係やかぞく的関係、同僚関係、性的パートナーなどによって愛を感じることもあります。Aロマンティックであるということは、これらの関係が恋愛的でない、ということです[5]。さらに、何を恋愛的・非恋愛的な関係や慕情、感情であるとみなすか、また、それをどう表現するかは、個人や文化によって異なることがあります。[5]
Aロマンティック・スペクトラム啓発週間（かつてはAロマンティック啓発週間）は、バレンタインの次の日曜日から一週間です。2014年11月に、概念を伝え、Aロマンティック・スペクトラムの受容を広げるため、始められました。[6]その後、バレンタインデーに居場所を見つけられないAロマンティック・コミュニティに居場所をつくり、Aロマンティックなあり方を祝福するため、バレンタインの直後に設定されました。[7]
Aロマンティックという語は、 Asexual Visibility and Education Networkのスレッド"Relationship Definitions"にて、2005年6月に考案されました。[8]少なくともAVENでは、2008年〜2009年ごろに、用語として一般化しました。[9]
フラッグ[]
最初に提案されたフラッグは、緑、黄色、オレンジ、黒の四色からなっていました。
- 緑:恋愛と結びつけられがちな赤色の反対として
- 黄:友情を表す黄バラより、プラトニックな愛
- オレンジ：赤と黄色の中間より、グレーロマンティック
- 黒：伝統的な恋愛の考えを拒絶するalloロマンティック
これは、しかし、ラスタファリ運動の旗と似ていることや、alloロマンティックが含まれていることから、変更されました[10]。 Cameron Whimsy(2014)による旗は二種類あり、ともに、5色からなります[11][12] Whimsyによって最初に提案されたものは中央が黄色でしたが、[11]これは最終版では白色に変更されました[12]。
- 緑と黄緑:Aロマンティシズムを表す緑と、スペクトラム全体を表す黄緑[12]
- 白:プラトニックを表します。これには美的慕情のほか、クィアプラトニックの関係、かぞく愛、友情などを表します。[12]
- グレーと黒:性的慕情を表します[12]
また、AロマンティックやAロマンティックな愛情を表すシンボルとして、矢印があります。これは、AroがArrow（矢印）と同じ発音であることに由来します。また、Aセクシュアルと同様にスペードを用いることもあります。特にAro/Aceの個人は、スペードのAを用いることがあります。[13]
